Gastric bypass surgery, also known as Roux-en-Y gastric bypass, is considered the most common weight loss invasive operation in Turkey.

It is a type of weight loss surgery that involves creating a small stomach pouch and rerouting the small intestine to connect to it. This limits the amount of food that can be eaten and reduces the absorption of calories.

The newly created stomach pouch is about the size of a golf ball and can only hold a small amount of food. The smaller stomach causes the person to feel full faster and eat less. Bypassing part of the small intestine also reduces the amount of calories absorbed, leading to weight loss.
